How do I turn off hyperlink tags in a Microsoft Word file?

Not sure what happened, but my Word application started showing text with hyperlinks as { HYPERRLINK “http://www.yahoo.com” } instead of the normal http://www.yahoo.com. can someone let me know how to change this back to normal?

Yes, this can be an annoying problem. To turn this feature off, click on the Office Button at the upper left corner and then select "Word Options". Under the Advanced option, find the entry for "Show document content". Uncheck "Show field codes instead of their values".
