The Million Dollar Homepage

The Million Dollar Homepage is a website created by Alex Tew in 2005 and was originally launched to raise money for his university education.

The unique concept of the website was to sell every pixel within the site's 1000x1000 pixel grid to companies as advertising space. Companies could then insert their logo onto their space and a click would redirect any visitor to the company's website.

Alex Tew aimed to raise one million US dollars by selling 10x10 pixel spaces for one USD.

After its launch on the 25th of August 2005 the website gained in popularity and peaked with an Alexa rank of 127.

On the the first of January 2006 the remaining 1000 pixels were put up for auction on ebay and sold to highest bidder for 38,100 USD, bringing the websites gross income up to 1,037,100 USD.
