Company Profile:
Founded in 1941, the American Congress on Surveying and Mapping (ACSM) is an international association representing the interests of professionals in surveying, mapping and communicating spatial data relating to the Earth's surface. Today, ACSM's members include more than 7,000 surveyors, ...
The number by which the apparent depth of the water measured stereoscopically is multiplied to give the true depth. This factor is a ratio of the tangent of the angle of incidence to tangent of the angle of refraction.

A coordinate in a topocentric coordinate system. Unless otherwise stated, astronomic coordinates of celestial bodies are topocentric coordinates.
Industry:Earth science
In three-dimensional space, one of a set of four coordinates w1, w2, w3, w4 assigned to each point in such a way that the points in Cartesian coordinates x,y,z are given by x = w1/w4; y = wx2/w4; z = w3/w4. Homogeneous coordinates have the desirable feature that all algebraic equations in homogeneous coordinates are homogeneous. This avoids the necessity of considering the special cases that arise with inhomogeneous equations and can make programming easier.

The orthogonal projection of a line, on the ground, onto an east west axis of reference. The departure of a line is the difference of the meridional distances or longitudes of the ends of the line. It is east, or positive, and is sometimes called the easting, for a line whose azimuth or bearing is in the northeast or southeast quadrant. It is west, or negative, and is sometimes called the westing, for a line whose azimuth or bearing is in the southwest or northwest quadrant. It is abbreviated as dep. in notes.
Industry:Earth science
The distance between those points nearest to and farthest from the camera which are imaged with acceptable sharpness.
Industry:Earth science
A contour line which is made lighter to indicate illuminated slopes and darker to indicate shadowed slopes.

A contract between a subdivider and the purchaser of a lot, intended to assist the developer in marketing his lots and to assure the purchaser that the value of his property and the character of the neighborhood will be maintained, and that nuisances will not be created by other purchasers.

The act of dedicating something. The dedication may be either express or implied. It is express when there is an express manifestation, on the part of the owner, of his purpose to devote the land to a particular, public use such as e.g., the streets in platted subdivisions. It is implied when the owner's acts and conduct manifest an intention to devote the land to public use. To make the dedication complete, there must not only be an intention on the part of the owner to set apart the land for the benefit of the public, but there must be an acceptance by the public.
Industry:Earth science
A conveyance that expressly states what land is not to be conveyed by the instrument.
